Expect a fast track, says SCG curator

Done in by pace and movement during the opening Test against Australia, the Indian cricket team is unlikely to get much respite in the second match as well with the pitch curator here promising a track which will initially aid fast bowlers.

SCG curator Tom Parker said the pitch he is preparing would favour fast bowlers on the opening day before settling down and turning later. continuereading

Tendulkar's elusive hundred will come

If you happen to meet Sachin Tendulkar, perhaps in George Street, Sydney, this weekend wish him good luck but please don't mention that century. He ought to be in batsman's heaven but in truth he must feel he is starring in a nightmare.

He is at the top of his game even though he is 38, an age for a top sportsman to rest the feet. Instead he is still harnessed to cricket, scoring runs aplenty but not at the right time or in the right measured quantities. continuereading

Sri Lanka posts an historic victory

Sri Lanka took the final three wickets in four balls to complete an historic 208-run win over South Africa on the fourth day of the second Test at Kingsmead on Thursday.

It was Sri Lanka's first win in South Africa on four Test tours and the first win of a previously bleak 2011. The team's first win under Tillekeratne Dilshan's captaincy helped level the three-match series at 1-1.

Herath's five-for

Set to make 450 to win, South Africa was bowled out for 241. Left-arm spinner Herath, who took five for 79 for match figures of nine for 128, was named Man of the Match.

Sri Lanka seemed set for an early victory when South Africa lost five wickets between lunch and tea to be reeling at 133 for six shortly before the interval. continuereading

Batting failure led to downfall

Indian captain M.S. Dhoni said the team's fifth consecutive defeat abroad — four in England and one here — was a consequence of the batting flopping.

“Our batting flopped in both innings,” said Dhoni. “If you see, we had a partnership going in the first innings, but we couldn't really capitalise on that. To some extent you can say that the collapse in the first innings was the turning point. The bowlers were getting tired, and if we could have seen off the new ball, it could have been different.” continuereading

Sachin, Dravid resurrect India

Sachin, Dravid resurrect India

Sachin Tendulkar will have to wait a little longer for his 100th international century after he was dismissed in the last over of the day, having given India a strong start to its first innings on Tuesday’s second day of the first Test against Australia.

Tendulkar, who has been stuck on 99 centuries since March, was bowled by Peter Siddle for 73 to leave India on 214-3 at stumps in reply to Australia’s first innings 333. The wicket ended a 117-run partnership between Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid that put India in command. continuereading

It all depends on India's bowlers :

It will be a series of rediscovery and validation
India and Australia set up Test cricket's most riveting rivalry over the last decade.
Champions, like electric current, need resistance to be measured against. Although England and South Africa provided vigorous counterpoints to Australia during this period, neither did it as uniformly, as luminously, or indeed as magically as India.continuereading
